A Virtual Lunar New Year Origami Workshop

China was the birthplace of paper more than 2,000 years ago, making origami a beautifully fitting way to welcome the Lunar New Year. In this live, interactive virtual workshop, participants explore the cultural symbolism behind traditional Lunar New Year shapes while folding a series of festive and meaningful creations.

For our 60-minute experience, guests create a New Year Origami Lantern, a Good Fortune Gold Bar (Yuan Bao), an Origami Heart, their own “Year of the…” Zodiac Animal, a Celebration Box, and finish with a playful Festival Spinner to close.

Our 30-minute experience includes a New Year Origami Lantern and the highlight “Year of the…” Zodiac Animal, followed by either a Celebration Box or a Festival Spinner depending on your preference.

A magical moment of the session is bringing your hand-folded Zodiac animal to life — celebrating the spirit and symbolism of the current lunar year through creativity and craft.

Participants can join using standard A4 or Letter printer paper, square paper, or elevate the experience with a professionally curated origami kit delivered directly to their doors. Suitable for beginners and experienced folders alike, this session blends creativity, culture, and mindfulness — making it a thoughtful and engaging choice for Lunar New Year team celebrations, ERG events, and inclusive global gatherings.

OUR STANDARD EVENT FORMAT:

–> Guests join via video conference (e.g., Zoom) and are welcomed by an expert origami host.
–> Introduction to origami, the origins of paper in China, and the cultural symbolism of Lunar New Year designs.
–> Step-by-step folding of selected festive models based on chosen event length.
–> Highlight activity: participants create their own “Year of the…” Zodiac animal.
–> Guests share their creations in a celebratory showcase moment.
–> Optional cultural insights, folding tips, and live Q&A.
–> Festive farewell to welcome prosperity, luck, and creativity into the new year.

• Q: What platform is this experience run on? A: We run the Virtual Lunar New Year Origami Workshop on Zoom as standard, but we can also run on MS Teams, Google Meets & Webex. (Some restrictions may apply).
• Q: Can we run this experience using our own meeting link? A: Yes, you absolutely can! Whilst we typically provide a secure link for the Virtual Lunar New Year Origami Workshop, you are welcome to use your own company’s meeting link if that’s more convenient for your team. We’ll work with you to ensure everything runs smoothly, regardless of the platform.
• Q: Is this event hosted? A: Yes, this Virtual Lunar New Year Origami Workshop is hosted by a live expert origami instructor. There will also be an Avva Event Technician running the tech side of your event.
• Q: Is this experience suitable for global audiences? A: Of course! Our Lunar New Year origami workshop online is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for teams from around the globe.
• Q: Can this experience work for hybrid groups? A: Yes, this experience is suitable for fully remote and hybrid groups.
• Q: What materials do we need to provide ourselves? A: Attendees only require around 8–12 sheets of A4/Letter paper (or square paper) from around the house to take part, depending on the chosen event length.
